Program participants will complete the program with an internship with academic and private sector extramural partners to support careers bridging linguistics and technology, both inside and outside academia, in national and international settings. The internship program is designed to support students’ future careers by maximizing their opportunities to transfer and further train their skills.

The AI Research Technologies at Interactions LLC develops custom speech interfaces for industry, using conversational artificial intelligence and adaptive understanding technology.

Constant Therapy

Constant Therapy harnesses innovative AI and large scale data to provide digital, individualized speech, language, and cognitive therapy to persons recovering from stroke or traumatic brain injuries, or living with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s.

Duolingo

Duolingo is the most popular language-learning platform and the most downloaded education app worldwide. Trainees will work with Duolingo learning scientists to analyze user behavior and communicate about linguistics and language science to a broad, global audience.

Gallaudet University

The Signing Avatars and Immersive Learning (SAIL) project is one of many projects under the Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) Center at Gallaudet University. Gallaudet University is the world’s premiere university serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Human-Computer Interaction Institute

The Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon researches innovation in user-interface software tools, gesture recognition, human-robot interaction, intelligent tutoring systems, and understanding and building platforms that maximize the positive organizational and social impact of technology.

The Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon develops innovative technologies that integrate science of language and AI/Machine Learning to enable tools and technologies to support human activity.

Linux Foundation's Working Group

The group’s research focuses on human-centered data science, building context adaptive spaces and performance assessment at the individual, group, and organizational levels. The work involves machine learning, social network analysis, data mining, and statistics.
